Hello to all my petit pooch friends! As you all may know, finding homes for rescue pets is a cause very dear to my heart. There are so many dogs that need homes it almost seem silly that anyone would go to a breeder. I understand many people head to a breeder because they are looking for a puppy or a particular breed.
There is however and wonderful website, www.petfinder.com, that can help find the perfect dog for you. You can search by age, gender, location, and breed.
This week is a very special week at petfinder, adopt-a-less-adoptable week. There are many factors that may make a dog less adoptable; dogs with special needs who may be older, blind, deaf, or missing a limb. Dogs breeds that may have,”questionable reputations” are also difficult to place, such as pit bulls and Rottweiler. Believe it or not, big black dogs also have difficult time finding their forever home and so do dogs that are just different.
What can you do to help my pooch friends out there? If you are looking for a dog and ready to adopt, consider these less adoptable pups. If a new dog is not in your future, ask your local animal shelter to nominate a less adoptable, feature them prominently on their homepage, and find a forever home for them. Let’s make it so no pooch is considered less adoptable.
Here is Frances, a petit pooch at Little Bits Rescue and Adoptions, a little friend who is just a little different. She didn’t have much human interaction growing up and so she has been difficult to place. For more of Frances’s story click here: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20346531.
