Tips For San Diego Business Travel. Stay to Play!
Like anyone who travels for work quite frequently, I too experience the stresses of little sleep, hectic schedules and jet lag. All the more reason to take a little extra time to choose where I lay my head. If I’m waking up to the sound of a freeway, in a room where I forget what city I’m in, there’s a serious problem. And I do mean serious problem… I’ve literally told the taxi driver to take me to the wrong airport before!
Here’s a tip or two on how to make your work feel a bit more like play and keep you connected to your environment:
- Check for a corporate rate - Even the most beautiful resorts can have surprisingly great deals. The property’s Corporate Sales Manager is your go-to person in this situation!
- Find a spot you want to call home - Would a jog on the beach be better than a hotel gym? I always find somewhere that has great attractions within walking distance from the hotel, whether it be shops, restaurants, or hiking trails, etc.
- Don’t be nervous to dine alone - The days of banishing yourself to the guestroom for cold room service are over. Stay at a spot that has a great hotel bar or restaurant lounge to grab a bite solo. And hey, “I’m here on business” gives you an excuse to be there date-free!
The anticipation of staying where they have your favorite comfy bed, the perfect cocktail, or a panoramic view of the ocean, can really make you remember why you chose a profession with travel as a job requirement.
