Charlie Trotter Day Menu at KITCHEN 1540

What is Charlie Trotter Day you ask?
Charlie Trotter was an advocate of ethical cooking and greatly involved with philanthropic efforts both in and outside of the restaurant industry. His restaurant, “Charlie Trotter’s”, in Chicago, garnered scores of awards from The James Beard Foundation to the Michelin Guide, and legions of chefs worked for him before going on to open their own establishments. A year after his passing, August 17 has been proclaimed Charlie Trotter Day by The State of Illinois.

On this Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17, KITCHEN 1540’s Culinary Team invites you to commemorate the opening of Charlie Trotter’s restaurant and celebrate his lasting legacy. Dedicated to the craft of melding classic technique with modern cuisine, KITCHEN 1540 will serve a special 3-course menu of the Trotter’s dishes as a nod to the famed chef, who was an extraordinary cook and mentor.

Celebrity disc jockey DJ Naka G with opening acts DJ NOEL 2033 and Rico De Largo provide a spirited vibe, perfect for the dance floor. CLUB 1540 is all about ultra-VIP service; there will be hosted champagne, 6-courses of tray passed eats from KITCHEN 1540’s new menu and bottle service with signature spirits.

This exclusive San Diego party is limited to 200 guests and includes admission to the regular party.

San Diego Earth Day Activities

Today marks a special day across the planet.  In conjunction with Destination Earth, L’Auberge Del Mar is participating in Earth Day by “turning down the power” this evening. We will dim all the lights in the lobby and around certain areas of the hotel. If you would like to participate at home or while you are staying with us, please turn off any lights, a/c, television, radio or anything at all that requires the use of power for a portion of your evening. At L’Auberge Del Mar, guests can enjoy sitting on the patio and listening to the sounds of the ocean, visiting with family or just breathing in the refreshing night air that surrounds us. Upon check-in today, our Front Desk will provide a LED key ring light.

Chef Jon Bautista crafts each dish with colorful regional produce and an artful eye. If you haven’t been by KITCHEN 1540 in a while, come for the Halibut! Mild in flavor, low in fat, and known its tender yet firm texture, this fish is harvested locally off the coast of Southern California and has become a favorite with our guests. Halibut can be prepared in a variety of ways, allowing our culinary team to be creative and keep with the season.

Best New Breakfast in San Diego!

KITCHEN 1540’s Executive Chef Scott Thomas Dolbee debuts his modern breakfast menu on Easter Sunday, March 31.

“Breakfast is the first meal of the day and spring is all about rebirth, so we thought it a perfect time to share the new menu with our guests,” says Dolbee.  “Guests will delight in a menu that is fun, trendy and very progressive like the other menus we’ve recently introduced at the hotel.”
