What is a cleansing breath? Cleansing breaths are great way to ventilate the lungs as well as strengthen the lower respiratory muscles. It is great if you are feeling sluggish, or are in a mid-day slump.
1. Stand with your feet apart, rest your hands on the front of your thighs, and take a deep breath in and out emptying as much air as possible on the out breath.
2. Breathe in slowly through your nose and at the same time raise your arms above your head. Arch your body backward without straining. Hold the breath.
3. Drop your body forward, bending from the waist so your upper body hangs loosely toward the floor. Breathing out quickly through the mouth. Making a “HA” noise.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 three times.
When practicing any breathing techniques it’s important to note that if you start to feel dizzy at any time to stop immediately and return to the natural rhythm of your breath.
